We have had the privilege over the years of working on some remarkable homes, with some remarkable customers across southern and central Minnesota. But even we were astonished during a recent window replacement project on a home on the south side of Minneapolis. We’ve taken out some old windows in the past, but this project took us by surprise.
The homeowner asked us to upgrade their home’s original porch with new siding and windows. The project called for new LP SmartSide siding and a set of state-of-the-art Andersen 100 Fibrex windows. But first, our crew had to remove the existing windows and siding, which were installed when the house was first built in 1911. That’s right, the original window frames and siding had been in place since before the First World War!
We got our second “What the heck?” moment when we discovered a label on a window that identified it as an Andersen Window and Door company product. Andersen Windows (then known as Andersen Lumber) had been established in Hudson, Wisconsin in 1904. Which means these window frames were among the earliest of the company’s products. And, despite having endured 114 years of Minnesota weather, the windows were still in remarkably good shape.

Now, we can’t guarantee the new Andersen 100 Fibrex windows we installed will last for 114 years. But we do know that the attention to detail and quality workmanship that went into making those windows 114 years ago is still an ingrained part of the process at Andersen. Combined with our Superior Window Installation Process, the new windows we installed should last long enough to surprise everyone the next time they are replaced in, perhaps, 100 years in the future.
